Does health insurance pay for compression socks?

We have found that most medical insurances do not pay for compression socks, but ask our staff and we can check your health plan to see what they say.

Do I need a prescription to purchase compression socks?

You do not need a prescription to purchase compression socks unless you are attempting to process a claim through your insurance. Your physician might give you a prescription that will help us know exactly what type of socks he wants you to purchase so bring it in if you have one so we can take a look.

Types of Compression Socks

Knee high – The most popular length of compression socks are knee high. We carry a wide variety of knee high casual and dress styles for men and women in 15-20mmhg and 20-30mmhg strength. We have open toe and closed toe in a variety of colors and fabrics.

Thigh high – Some medical practitioners will want you to have compression above the knee so we have a selection of thigh high compression hose for men and women in different colors and fabrics.

Panty hose – We do not stock compression panty hose but we can take the necessary measurements at our store and help you select what you need. We can special order them and have them shipped to your home if you like.

Anti-Embolism Socks

These socks are typically seen in hospital settings to wear while in bed to prevent blood clots due to inactivity. If you are up walking around during the day a typical compression sock would be better. However, if you are presently confined to bed quite a bit, we do carry these types of socks as well.

What do the numbers 15 - 20 mmHg or 20-30 mmhg mean?

This refers to the strength of squeeze the sock provides. The higher the number, the higher the squeeze. But this also makes the sock difficult to get on and off. We carry several levels of “squeeze” and can help you select the appropriate one if your medical professional hasn’t specified that for you.

Are you having difficulty getting your compression socks on and off?

We have donning accessories that may be able to help.
